Yoklab in the Community

Relieving Hardship and Creating Opportunities

One of Yoklab Foundation’s registered charitable objectives is:

“To relieve financial hardship among poor people and other people in need.”

This objective guides our community work. We support people whose financial circumstances may prevent them from meeting essential needs, accessing education, developing useful skills or participating fully in community life.

Our approach combines immediate assistance with opportunities that can help people become more confident, connected and independent.

Why Our Work Is Needed

People experiencing financial hardship may struggle to afford food, clothing, household essentials, educational materials, transport or access to digital services.

These difficulties can be made worse by unemployment, disability, caring responsibilities, poor health, social isolation or unexpected changes in household circumstances. Without timely support, a temporary problem can disrupt a person’s education, wellbeing and ability to move forward.

Yoklab Foundation responds to these needs through practical assistance, educational support, community activities and partnership working. The scale and availability of each service depend on funding, identified need and available charitable resources.

Our Community Services

Hardship and Essential Support

We provide practical assistance to eligible individuals and families experiencing financial difficulty. Depending on need and available funding, support may include food items, toiletries, clothing, basic household supplies and other essential goods.

We can also provide information and refer people to appropriate specialist services where their needs fall outside our charitable capacity.

Educational Support

We help children, young people and adults overcome financial barriers to education and training.

Our support may include books, stationery, learning materials, digital access, educational activities, skills workshops and assistance with participation in approved training opportunities.

Small Grants and Targeted Assistance

Subject to eligibility, available funds and trustee approval, Yoklab Foundation may provide small grants or targeted financial assistance to individuals facing genuine hardship.

We may also support charitable organisations and community groups whose work reflects our registered purposes and provides a clear benefit to the public.

All applications are assessed fairly. Financial assistance is not guaranteed and may be paid directly to a supplier or service provider where appropriate.

Skills and Digital Inclusion

Limited digital access and a lack of practical employment skills can prevent people from accessing education, employment and essential services.

Our activities may include basic digital skills, online safety, CV preparation, job-search support, interview guidance and help using online public services.

Health, Wellbeing and Disability Inclusion

We support inclusive activities that promote wellbeing, reduce isolation and encourage community participation.

Services may include wellbeing information sessions, accessible community activities, social support and referrals to qualified health or specialist organisations. We do not provide clinical or regulated medical services.

Community Partnerships

We work with schools, voluntary groups, registered charities, professionals and other community organisations to identify needs and coordinate appropriate support.

Partnership working helps reduce duplication, extend the reach of charitable resources and connect people with services that can provide further assistance.

How Grant Funding Supports Our Work

Grant funding enables Yoklab Foundation to respond to needs that cannot be met through volunteer time alone. Funding can help us provide:

  • Essential items for individuals and families experiencing hardship
  • Educational resources and digital access
  • Skills, employability and wellbeing workshops
  • Accessible venues and activity materials
  • Travel support for eligible participants
  • Trained sessional staff and specialist facilitators
  • Safeguarding, volunteer support and project coordination
  • Monitoring and evaluation of outcomes
  • Small grants and targeted assistance
  • Outreach to people who may otherwise remain unsupported

Every grant helps us turn charitable objectives into practical support for people and communities.

The Difference We Aim to Make

Through our community services, we aim to help people:

  • Meet urgent and essential needs
  • Remain engaged in education or training
  • Improve practical and digital skills
  • Build confidence and independence
  • Reduce isolation and improve wellbeing
  • Access appropriate services and opportunities
  • Participate more fully in community life
